Hello everyone! As my first blog post, let's get to know each other better ^^
Here's some About Me:
My name is Sophia Zhu. I'm an "ABC" (American Born Chinese). And yes, I can still read and speak in Mandarin. My hometown is in Brooklyn, NY and I'm currently studying Business Analytics major in the College of Business.
I think I was inspired to study Japanese even though I promised myself I would never study another language after studying three years of Russian in high school (and to no fruition) mainly because of Japanese novels. I've grown up either watching or reading the mystery genre thanks to my sister who was a Detective Conan (Case Closed) fan when I was young. She then dragged me to watch Sherlock Holmes with her and I've been fascinated with the genre since. I especially enjoy the Japanese Honkaku mystery genre. However, much of the novels I wish to read are NOT. TRANSLATED. I really wanted to read novels like "The Gymnasium Murder" by Yuugo Aosaki along with many other famous, award-winning novels. And so, I'm hoping to learn how to read Japanese so that I could read more novels :))
I think it is awesome that you love Japanese stories/literature. Although not in the realm of mystery, I wonder if you have read anything from Banana Yoshimoto, she is an amazing writer.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing reasons to take Japanese class Sophia!Big fan of Detective Conan btw.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, Sophia. I also think your love for Japanese mystery novels is really awesome. When I was young, me and my sister watched and read a lot of Detective Conan too.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to meet you, Sophia. Russian is an interesting language, for sure. My mom is basically fluent (she may or may not be a spy; I am not sure). It is very cool how much you are interested in Japanese novels and various genres.
ReplyDeleteThats a cool reason learn Japanese!
ReplyDelete很高兴认识你!Japanese literature is really fun, but yeah i agree almost nothing gets translated i feel like and no one's willing to make fan translations of entire books
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of good things about Detective Conan. I've never had the chance to watch it personally, so I'll judge your judgment here on the mystery genre! I personally love more shonen types but that's good too! I wish you my condolences for having to learn Russian in high school.
ReplyDeleteI like your website design a lot! It seems like you really devoted a lot of time to create interesting blogs. This is great!
