As stated in this post's title, my video of choice was from a Youtube channel named: "Abroad in Japan." If you are ever planning on visiting Japan, Chris's channel is an absolute delight. The cinematography and level of research done for every video is always top-notch and for a channel that focuses on giving viewers an insight into Japanese culture, he has over 300 videos; this always shocks me because it just shows how, despite being relatively small square miles-wise, there's so many micro-cultures and communities within every Japanese town.
I chose this video in particular because I personally really enjoy the on-camera chemistry between Chris and his friend Connor— together they have the best humor and makes for both an entertaining watch and funny background noise as you study.
Also, just because...
Snow.
Monkeys.
They're so cute. Look at this thing. He has NO THOUGHTS on his mind and I am jealous. It's no wonder they're such a spotlight for the average Japanese tourist, because I too would want to be close to one (sorry if that was a mouthful to read...oof).
Aside from this travel vlog, here is just a self-interest motivated recommendation. If you're into manga or anime or just detective mysteries and enjoyed Detective Conan or Sherlock Holmes, PLEASE GIVE KINDAICHI CASE FILES A TRY!!! I won't lie when I say this is a small obsession of mine—partially because Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7 still isn't animated or else Jojo could rival this right now. Anyways, if you're into (1) Locked-room mysteries (2) Slightly gruesome murders (3) Seemingly perfect alibis or (4) Dark mysteries with a light-tone because the detective is still in high school, please give this a try. Please. Not enough people read this and it pains me. I need someone else to geek about this with.
Kindaichi Case Files: The Best Underrated Detective Anime and Manga
I love Chris and Connor, my favorite trash taste episodes are the ones where Chris is on. And if you're a big Conan fan you'd probably like Lupin the 3rd, similar sort of long running series with episodic adventures but rather than a detective its a gang of thieves, in fact there's been multiple crossover specials with Conan, highly recommend
ReplyDeleteI used to watch Abroad in Japan. I enjoyed Chris's humor and the way he filmed the city and the background. He captures the atmosphere and vibe well.
ReplyDeleteSince Conan has a lot of media, is there one you prefer, such as manga, anime, or movies? Do you prefer stories about the main story or standalone cases or both?
