This summer, I started watching the 2000s Japanese show:トリック(TRICK). The plot is about a talented magician, 山田奈緒子 (Naoko Yamada played by Yukie Nakama), who is an unpopular (and thus broke) magician despite being talented at magic tricks. Through a series of circumstances, she ran into and teamed up with a physics professor, 上田次郎 (Jiro Ueda played by Hiroshi Abe) to uncover "supernatural" cases. The show is broken into acts with each story revolving around a new "supernatural" ability. For example, in season 1 there's: "The Clairvoyant Cultist," "The Man who can make you disappear," "The Pantomime Killer," and the "Clairvoyant Health Guru."
The series' focus revolves around debunking these paranormal phenomenas as well as the scammers who promote these abilities to exploit others. I personally really enjoyed this series because it had the perfect mix of comedy and mystery. Because the focus is on solving how these scammers lie to others, there's a natural mystery to the plot— which I always appreciate. The main characters are also absolutely adorable and hilarious from their constant bickering, making it a fairly light-hearted show.
すばらしい! I hadn't heard of this series, sounds very interesting.
